2009-New

Hoover City Schools Child Nutrition Program has made many changes for the 2009-2010 school year, including:

    1. @HooverCNP is now on Twitter! - In an effort to provide better and quicker communication to parents about CNP happenings (specifically, what's being served in school cafeterias), the department has decided to "tweet" daily updates!  Getting a Twitter account to follow Hoover CNP is easy and free - visit www.twitter.com and sign up for your free account!
    2. Updated School Cafeteria Contacts - The entire CNP school contacts page has been updated with new information and more staff pictures - click here for CNP staff contacts at your child's school.
    3. SchoolMessenger District Calling System - The SchoolMessenger automated calling system, introduced to the district in early 2009, will continue to be used to notify families of low or negative CNP meal account balances.  While we encourage all families to participate in the system, parents can opt to block balance notification calls and still receive other announcements regarding emergencies or attendance using the online parent management interface.  If you experience problems with the system regarding meal account balance calls, please contact your child's school CNP Manager or e-mail a description of the issue to cnp@hoover.k12.al.us including your child's name, school, and home telephone number.

      IMPORTANT NOTE:
Students will no longer receive paper balance notifications
from cafeteria staff.  Parents still have 24/7 free access to student balance information using PayPAMS online account management system.  To subscribe, please visit www.paypams.com, or the PayPAMS info page on the CNP website.  Calls will continue to be placed in both English and Spanish, based on the primary language of the student established during school registration.
    4. Newly updated website!  The website can now be accessed by simply typing www.hoover.k12.al.us/cnp into your browser.  The site still includes tools like the Keypad Training Tool for younger students, and Serving Line Layouts to better understand cafeteria traffic flow.  Stay tuned for our monthly spotlight of different CNP personnel, as updated pictures featuring our program staff, facilities, or events.  The site still includes several pages that highlight food and nutrition - be sure to visit the "Chef's Corner," a page designed for Lisa Gilcrease, our District Chef.  Lisa's recipe postings are a real hit!
    5. PayPAMS - this will be our third year using PayPAMS online account management subscription service for parents.  We continue to receive a lot of positive feedback from parents, faculty, and employees alike about how convenient it is to use!  Families can try the service without a subscription fee - just pay $1.95 per transaction!  Remember, parents can monitor student meal account activity free of charge!
    6. New Nutritional Analysis - Each school year brings a change in nutritionals as products are added or changed to become healthier.  The analysis will still be highly informative, containing all menu items we serve, Calories, Fat, Protein, and Carbohydrates, but it will also include Fiber data, as well as a Weight Watchers point equivalent for single servings of each item!  Values listed in this analysis are approximate and should be used as general guidelines.
    7. Big Daddy's Pizza Parties! - Last year, we introduced Big Daddy's Pizza to all our schools for use in pizza parties!  The 16" cheese and pepperoni pizzas have received positive reviews from students at both Hoover and Spain Park High Schools, so we thought we'd expand it for use in pizza parties at all schools!  For more information, please contact your child's school Cafeteria Manager.
    8. We want feedback!  Please let us know of any questions, concerns, or comments you have about or program by e-mailing cnp@hoover.k12.al.us.  We have more general information available on our Survey & Feedback page regarding recent CNP survey results.
